About

Droopy eyelid treatments

Dr Nick Koutroumanos is a London based Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic surgeon, with particular subspecialty expertise in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive eyelid, orbital and lacrimal surgery for both adults and children.

His private practice, based at The Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth in St John’s Wood complements his work in charge of a large NHS oculoplastics practice at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead.

Dr Koutroumanos studied medicine at Newcastle University. Following a year as a lecturer in clinical medicine at Durham University, he took his ophthalmology residency in London at the world-leading Moorfields Eye Hospital. He then gained further experience in London, Vancouver, New York and San Francisco through three scholarship-awarded, post-residency oculoplastics fellowships and extensive training in ophthalmic plastic surgery.

A qualified senior trainer and Royal College Examiner in ophthalmic plastic surgery, cataract surgery and general ophthalmology, he runs an Oculoplastics Fellowship training programme that is highly sought-after by both UK and international candidates.

A large proportion of Dr Koutroumanos’ private patients are referred by other ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons. He treats them for eyelid, tear-duct and eye-socket conditions, and dry and watery-eye concerns that require expert management. His particular surgical expertise lies in reconstructive surgery for eyelids and the upper face following skin cancer and trauma, aesthetic eye rejuvenating surgery and in complex lacrimal surgery.

Oculoplastic Surgery, a relatively recently established medical specialty, marries the skills of plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic facial surgery with those of Ophthalmic and general eye surgery. Individuals opting to be cared for by fellowship trained oculoplastic surgeons can expect to be offered treatment which will in no way compromise the safety or comfort of their eyes or vision. Eye health will be simultaneously assessed and considered at every step of the way by an eyelid surgeon who has committed their professional practice to the exclusive treatment of the eyes and tissues around them.

My practice philosophy, be it in functional, cosmetic or trauma eyelid surgery, is centred around the natural rehabilitation of the periocular area. Meticulously and individually planned, conservative interventions designed to remain true to personal facial characteristics.

Successful outcomes in all facial surgery are those which underscore one’s own personality and beauty with freshness and youthfulness, but without signs of surgery. This is achieved by taking on cases where patient expectations are fully aligned with what is likely to result in their intended outcomes.

I strongly believe that any rejuvenating or restorative facial intervention should above all uphold the expression characteristics which make us who we are. For this reason, a less-is-more approach underpins my treatment philosophy.

This website’s primary aim is to provide information around the conditions which we treat in the hope that prior to arranging an appointment with Dr Koutroumanos or following your consultation with him, some notions around you condition can help put your decisions into context.  This way one can mitigate what often feels like information overload in the consulting room.  Whatever the gravity of the condition treated, Dr Koutroumanos believes strongly in well-informed patients making decisions in partnership with their clinician. Patient Information Leaflets are available throughout these pages and if any information you expect to see is missing, please do ask our office.
